The Sanderson sisters have lived a dozen lifetimes all over the world. They were persecuted and almost hung the last time they lived in Salem but have recently returned, posing as their own great great great grand daughters. Their name alone sparks wariness, then add on the fact that rumor around town is that they are every bit as "witchy" as their supposed great great great great grandmothers were and for the most part, people avoid interacting with them. While their magic has kept them young, it comes with its own set of drawbacks. One of which is an ancient curse that states no Sanderson woman ever find true happiness with a man. Throughout their lives they have worked to remove the curse, but time and again, the men they have loved have died.

Winnie has sworn off men after an unfortunate misunderstanding between a lover and her youngest sister and has instead, devoted her life to the craft. Sarah is a habitual flirt who knows men have a certain... entertainment value, though magic has it's own worth too. Mary is still, after all this time, a hopeless romantic, stubbornly set on finding a way to remove their curse after yet another husband dies, convincing her that the only use for magic is to remove the curse or nothing at all.

The trouble starts with Sarah, who has been sleeping with a quarterback with a promising future from a nearby university. The promise of the semi-normal life she and Mary have both yearned for is within her reach when this boyfriend's true nature shines through. After a series of incidences where he gets rough with her, he shows up to their house drunk and tries to rape her. Her sisters rush to her aid and in the struggle, he ends up dead. 

If they go to the police, they risk exposure, so it seems their only option is to bury the body in the garden and vow silence on the matter. 

Just as it seems they may have avoided any repercussions for Sarah's bad taste, Detective Dennison starts poking around asking questions. Add in the fact that Thackery Binx, cursed long ago by the sisters to wander the rest of time as a werecat of sorts, has been haunting Salem for centuries just WAITING to exact his revenge, and the universe may not be working in the Sanderson sisters favor for much longer.
