For years, people tried to predict the end of the world. They advocated for mass amounts of natural disasters, meteoroids that wrecked the earth, and plagues that wiped out the entire human population. Some people even swore that the end was nigh because the dead would be coming back to life to claim the earth they once left behind. Mostly, people just laughed these warnings off and carried on with their life like any other day. However, there was the occasional family and/or person that went in deep and got themselves with bunkers under ground, and stock piles that would make even the bigger hungry shelters look weak.
It goes without saying that you shouldn't mock the crazy, because they've got the tightest grip on perception and reality. It started slow, on the islands that don't hold many people. For the first few days, the government tried to pass it off as a side-effect to a street drug called "Krocodil" or desomorphine. The drug was known to rot away the flesh of those that used it, cause brain damage, and eventually drive them into insanity, so why not parallel it with the dead when they started appearing?
But before the government could get the real happenings under control, the virus that spread through the islands started making its' way to the coastal lines within a week. Nobody suspected a thing, the news hardly even covered the Krocodil epidemic. It'd been such a slow start, in fact, that when California starts getting hit and people fall victim, it sends the Beacon Hills team of heroes and their allies into a frenzy. They've faced the Beast of Gevaudan, Dread Doctors, and a Nogitsune, but what about THE DEAD?
